'Broken Vase' is one of my favourite pieces for its simplicity and design. I have always loved 'surface patterns' and blue and white china is no exception. The work is a combination of gouache paint on paper and collage. 

Often, after it has rained, I will walk the many paths around Montreal (France), scanning the ground for bits of broken china gistening in the sun. This piece captures the beginning of that journey. Things get broken, thrown away and buried. One person's rubbish another person's treasure. 

The red background sets the blue and white china alight.
